Reset SSH port from WHM

63

As everyone knows the default SSH port for the Cpanel server is 22 and hacker can easily exploit the port and gain access to the server so why give a chance to the hacker to exploit that default port 22? So we can quickly change the port no. from 22 to any other port easily without having the much technical knowledge required. We can change the SSH port by changing the SSH configuration file via SSH command line interface either by Terminal ( MAC user ) or Putty ( Windows user ). You can log into the WHM without SSH, and you can also reset SSH port to default.

SSH port 22

If you forget the SSH port, then you can’t access the server shell access anymore.

Auto Fixer is the tool which helps you to reset the SSH port from the web browser if you have the WHM logins, i.e., root logins.

So let’s begin with the SSH port reset from the web browser :

Step 1: Log into WHM control panel as the root user.

Step 2: After you logged in to the WHM, you need to access the following URL to reset your SSH settings to default:

 http://serverip:2086/scripts2/doautofixer?autofix=safesshrestart

Make sure you replace “serverip” with your server’s IP address or hostname that you have set earlier during the server setup.

After you open the URL the script will reset the PORT to default value 22 and you are ready to log in to the server through the port 22 to your server and reset the SSH configuration.

If the server is found to have that any other service is running on port 22 then the script will try to host the SSH service on other port and it will be displayed once the script is being executed.
